The Tompkins Charitable Gift Fund's Board of Directors is a volunteer board made up of civic leaders, each with a distinguished career in both charitable service and business leadership.

John Gutenberger, President

John Gutenberger is Director of Community Relations for Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He served as Mayor for the City of Ithaca from 1984 until 1990, and currently serves in a leadership role on several local community boards and committees.

James A. Brown, Vice President

James Brown is CEO for United Way of Tompkins County, serving in that capacity for the past 17 years. In addition to the Tompkins Charitable Gift Fund, he serves locally as a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Ithaca, as President of the Legacy Foundation, and as a director of Cayuga Health Systems, Tompkins County Area Development, and Kendal at Ithaca.

Tara T. Masters, Treasurer

Tara Masters is a senior vice president and chief operations officer for Tompkins Financial Advisors. She is responsible for the administration and management of the organization's operations. Tara previously served as President of the Trumansburg Central School Foundation, President of the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County, Inc. and its predecessor, The Arts Council for Tompkins County, Treasurer of the Taughannock Soccer Club, Board member of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, as well as a member of the United Way of Tompkins County's Allocation Committee and fundraiser for the Hospicare and Palliative Care Services of Tompkins County.

Michelle Benedict-Jones

Michelle Benedict-Jones is the Assistant Treasurer at Cornell University. Prior to joining Cornell, she had a 30 year career in banking and wealth management which included acting as the Managing Director of the Tompkins Charitable Gift Fund. After her banking career, she served as the Vice President of Development and Community Engagement at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Michelle is a lifelong resident of Ithaca, and has served on the boards of many community non-profit organizations. She is a graduate of Colgate University.

Kelly Cobb

Kelly Cobb, CPA, is Financial Controls Analyst with Corning Incorporated. She is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University where she received her BBA in Marketing and MBA in Accounting. She is a member of the New York State Society of CPAs and Tompkins Connect.
